The Shadows Of Light 2023
Shadows Of Light is a piece of musical theatre directed by Damenshan Hynniewta and produced by INTACH -Meghalaya Chapter
The musical is inspired by U Soso Tham’s ‘Ki Sngi Barim U Hynniewtrep’ (‘The Old Days of the Khasis’, translated by Dr. Janet Hujon). But rather than setting the backdrop in ki sngi barim, the musical instead situates itself in an apocalyptic, postmodern world - where humanity is already lost, just as Tham had rued and feared. In the musical, the Poet, reflected in the eyes of the narrator - MYLLUNG - witnesses seven characters fall in the shadows of ruin and regret, just as the seven tribes did when they were severed from the Creator's grace at U Lum Sohpet Bneng. He accounts how they - these seven characters... and the Khasi people as a whole - sought to seek the light once again.
Our Part To Play
Studio 3.14 was engaged in the production of the musical theatre piece from the onset of the project.
We ventured into the project with the intention of making the stage come alive with collaborative efforts.
Studio 3.14 brought a small glimpse of the art of projection mapping the taste of which lingered till the very end of the play as we brought to life the essential 'tree of life' like character.
This was our first foray into mapping a 3D structure live in front of a live audience and we left them wanting more!
